Welcome to Norwalk
in Norwalk, CT
Ernesto teamed up with Sonny Sundancer to create the 1,000+ foot long mural, Welcome to Norwalk.
The mural, which stretches approximately 1,050 feet by 20 feet, welcomes residents and visitors to Norwalk by celebrating the city and its natural beauty.
The phrase “Welcome to Norwalk” is painted along the wall. It is anchored in the center by a humpback whale, as its proportions stretch gracefully along the length of the long wall. The design also incorporates other marine animals, like harbor seals, jellyfish and oysters. Native birds, like cardinals and the red-winged blackbird, and other local animals, like the New England cottontail, can be found throughout the design. These animals, representing land, water and air, are surrounded by bright abstract elements interwoven with flora and fauna.
The animals were chosen by way of public polling and research by the artist team. The mural's intention is to promote a sense of community, create an inspiring environment, and encourage an appreciation for the natural surroundings.
